Training

On-the-job training provides a thorough understanding of the core products and services offered by HSBC in Canada. Career Paths

HSBC Bank Canada has three separate, distinct lines of business. Your first step is to choose which of these three key businesses you wish to join via the  Fast Forward program:

Personal Financial Services:
When you join the Personal Financial Services (PFS) business, you will train to take on the role of Account Manager PFS. PFS is dynamic: Retail investment options are continually changing and our customers have increasingly sophisticated financial needs. Within this environment, our Account Managers PFS maintain and develop a client portfolio comprised of high volume deposit, investment and lending products. They contribute to branch profitability by effectively working with individual customers, providing them with solutions that support their personal financial objectives. As an Account Manager, PFS Trainee, you will learn how to:

  • Achieve demanding sales targets
  • Structure financial solutions for our customers 
  • Broaden existing customer relationships and develop new customer relationships 
  • Plan local marketing campaigns 
  • Develop key relationships within the community 
  • Become a trusted financial adviser to your clients 

Commercial Financial Services:
When you join the Commercial Banking business, you will train to take on the role of Relationship Manager, working closely with your colleagues in Commercial Banking teams to respond to the needs of our valued clients. Our commercial banking professionals provide customized financial solutions that support our customer’s business goals. Whether it is a credit solution or a cash management package, you will provide our customers with a broad range of services and products essential for the growth and success of their businesses. As a Trainee, Commercial Banking, you will learn how to:

  • Achieve demanding sales targets
  • Structure commercial banking solutions for our commercial clients 
  • Broaden existing customer relationships and develop new customer relationships 
  • Use your financial knowledge to analyze company financial statements. 
  • Become a valued partner to your clients  

Customer Service:
When you join the Customer Service business, you train to take on a leadership role as a Supervisor, Customer Service. In that role, you will lead a team, delivering world-class customer service through the efficient planning, scheduling, training and supervision of our customer service representatives. They support the efficient and compliant operation of our Branches. As a Supervisor Trainee, Customer Service you will learn how to:

  • Lead a team to achieve excellence in customer service 
  • Inspire and train your team of Customer Service Representatives to achieve sales targets 
  • Manage staffing schedules, overseeing performance management and hiring of staff 
  • Ensure all Branch operations are compliant with internal policies, as well as with the requirements of our external regulators. 
  • Direct all retail cash management activities in the branch 
  • Become a respected leader in branch operations 

Qualifying

All three lines of business require a sales-oriented mindset and eligibility to work in Canada. In addition, you possess a post-secondary degree, superb communication skills, and strong leadership qualities. You also have a history of community involvement demonstrated through volunteer or extracurricular activities. Ideally, you possess some accounting education or experience and a background in a retail or financial services environment.

Applications for the 2010 program will be accepted from August 31, 2009 to September 30, 2009. Job placements will occur at varied intervals in 2010.

Fluency in English is a must, and fluency in at least one other language is always a plus for qualified candidates.
