HSBC Clean Air Achievers

HSBC Bank Canada has donated $100,000 to support the HSBC Clean Air Achievers program, an initiative of Clean Air Champions. HSBC Clean Air Achievers engages students across Canada in exploring how their transportation choices affect air pollution and climate change, as well as in discovering the impacts on their personal health. The program features current and former Olympic and National Team athletes, who educate and motivate the youth!

Great Canadian Geography Challenge

HSBC Bank Canada is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of The Great Canadian Geography Challenge, a national student competition designed to help foster an interest in geography among young Canadians and to raise the profile of geography with teachers and the general public.

The Great Canadian Geography Challenge has been organized every year since 1994 by the Canadian Council for Geographic Education. Starting in the fall at the classroom and school level, it progresses first to The Provincial/Territorial Finals and then to the National Finals. Arts Umbrella

HSBC Bank Canada is a Founding Sponsor of Arts Umbrella and the Title Sponsor of their 'HSBC Save Our Planet Inreach Program' for elementary schools. Greater Vancouver schools are able to bring their students to Arts Umbrella's facility for free visual arts and theatre workshops with an environmental theme. Montreal Children's Hospital "Pedal for Kids"

"Pedal for Kids" is a public fundraising event for the Montreal Children's Hospital. Teams of 30 compete on a single multi-cycle (bicycle) on a course throughout downtown Montreal. York University

HSBC Bank Canada is donating $500,000 over a five-year period to York University in Toronto to provide scholarships for outstanding students. With matching funds from the Ontario Student Opportunities Trust Fund, the HSBC Bank Canada scholarship fund will total $1 million.

University of British Columbia

The HSBC Bank Canada gift of $1.4 million over seven years is the single largest contribution to the University of British Columbia from a bank to date. With the help of matching funds from the University, the donation is being used to support UBC’s downtown Vancouver campus and free courses for Downtown Eastside residents at the Learning Exchange in Vancouver. Dalhousie University Eco-Efficiency Centre

Many businesses have the potential to become environmentally friendly and cost-efficient. That’s why HSBC Bank Canada is donating $125,000 over five years to the award-winning Eco-Efficiency Centre at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

Established in 1998, the Eco-Efficiency Centre is a not-for-profit agency that promotes environmental responsibility in local small and medium sized enterprises. At no cost, the Eco-Efficiency Centre conducts environmental reviews to help companies become environmentally responsible while also saving money. The Eco-Efficiency Centre also runs the Eco-Business Program through which local businesses agree to an environmental code and commit to meeting specific waste reduction and conservation goals.

Currently, there are over 100 companies who are members of the Eco-Business Program. The program has been successful in both educating and motivating companies to reduce their environmental impact, waste and pollution. For more information, visit eco-efficiency.management.dal.ca/index.htm.

The Nature Trust of British Columbia

HSBC Bank Canada is donating $100,000 over two years, beginning in 2005, to The Nature Trust of British Columbia to support the HSBC Conservation Youth Crew Program. Youth crews are made up of youth who spend 15 to 20 weeks engaging in habitat restoration, employability skills workshops, and coaching and mentoring.

Founded in 1971, The Nature Trust of British Columbia manages approximately 150,000 acres of land on over 229 properties. In order to maintain the beauty and health of this land, HSBC Conservation Youth Crews help with weed control, repairing and constructing perimeter fences, removing debris, species inventory, and re-seeding and planting. Bow Habitat Station

HSBC Bank Canada donated $100,000 to help Bow Habitat Station establish the HSBC Discovery Room. Bow Habitat Station is located in the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery in Calgary and is Alberta’s first eco-park. The HSBC Discovery Room will be a venue for numerous educational activities that will facilitate an interest in and respect for the environment. Children and their families can participate in arts and crafts, puppetry, puzzles and educational hands-on activities.
