Protecting Your Computer:

  • Anti-Virus Software

Install anti-virus software on your home computer and/or laptop to scan your email and the files on your computer for potential viruses that may be attached. If a virus is detected, you are notified and the anti-virus software will prevent the email or file from being sent to you before it is opened. You should run your anti-virus software frequently to prevent computer infections like viruses, worms and Trojan Horses from entering your computer system. Purchase a program that automatically upgrades your virus protection on a regular basis. Two popular sources for anti-virus software are McAfee and Computer Associates®.
  • Firewall Software

Firewalls are used to block and prevent unauthorized access to your computer files. Firewalls prevent unwanted visitors from entering your computer system to use files, gain personal information or destroy computer data. You can purchase firewall software from popular sources such as McAfee and Computer Associates.
  • Anti-Spam Software

Visit yahoo.com, howstuffworks.com or whatis.com for more information about spam and the software you can install to minimize unsolicited email.
