Unless you plan to use assets in Canada as security, you will likely need to make home financing arrangements from a bank in your destination country. At HSBC’s International Banking Services we have representatives in more countries than any other bank. Let us help you get settled.
Ensure you have a good real estate agent or lawyer who is familiar with the neighbourhood in which you are interested. It is a good idea to talk to the neighbours to get a feel of the area— there are lots of things you can learn by word of mouth. Be especially careful of entering contracts, both written and oral. Other countries can often have very different laws and practices.
We may be able to put you in touch with a friendly face in your destination country. We can also help you set up accounts and establish credit in that country. Keep in mind that each country has its own restrictions. For example, there may be a minimum balance requirement to open an account.
