More on account types.

2. Complete your application.

Choose the most convenient way to apply.

To open a personal account, you must:

  • Be a Canadian resident.
  • Be of the age of majority in your province of residence.

3. Submit your application.

Before you submit, here is a list of items which must accompany your submission:

  • All application forms are completed and signed.
  • A pre-printed cheque for $10 drawn on a Canadian Financial institution from the personal account(s) of both the Applicant and Co-Applicant. The $10 will be deposited as a contribution into your HSBC InvestDirect account and is not a fee.
  • A photocopy of the identification1 of both the Applicant and Co-Applicant, or any other individual with authority over the account.
  • All account applicants (except non-U.S. citizens signing up for registered accounts) must complete a U.S. Internal Revenue Service document so HSBC InvestDirect can apply the correct withholding tax on investment income from U.S. sources. This can include dividend and interest income.

Submit your completed application forms by mail, or at your local HSBC Bank Canada Branch.
