Administrative Fees

Certain transactions and activities with HSBC InvestDirect may be subject to administrative fees These include: 

Non-registered accounts

Annual Inactivity Fee1

Your account will be exempt from this fee if any of the following apply:
  • You have completed two or more commissionable trades2 in the preceding 12 months.
  • You also hold an HSBC InvestDirect registered account with same beneficial ownership (RRSP, LIRA, RIF, LIF, LRIF or RESP)
  • Your account has been open for less than 90 days

Special Services

American Depositary Receipt (ADR) fee - banks that custody ADRs charge fees on a per share basis, which may vary by individual ADRs and are passed through to ADR investors.

Taxes such as GST/HST or Provincial Sales Tax may be applicable on certain charges.

1 Charged annually (on or around December 15 each year) on your non-registered investment accounts with market balances less than $5,000.

2 Commissionable trades are: Buys and sells of Equities, Options, Mutual Funds with fees (excludes MERs), Fixed Income – Bonds, Treasury Bills, Bankers’ Acceptances, Bearer Deposit Notes, Commercial Paper and Crown Corporation Money Market Instruments. Buys and sells of GICs, Term Deposits, Canada Savings Bonds, Money Market Mutual Funds and Provincial Savings Bonds are not considered commissionable trades.

3 Fee only applies to accounts with balances under $15,000 CDN as at May 31. This fee will be debited from registered accounts in June.

4 Transactions subject to acceptance by HSBC InvestDirect.
