Unclaimed Property

A few words about unclaimed property.

The laws in British Columbia and Quebec require the holders of unclaimed property to make “reasonable efforts” to locate and contact the rightful owners if their last known address was in one of those two provinces. If all efforts taken by the holders are unsuccessful, information on the unclaimed property must be made accessible to the public in order to facilitate its return to the owner.

HSBC Investment Funds (Canada) Inc. and HSBC Global Asset Management (Canada) Limited distribute regular mail communications. If any communications are returned by the post office as undeliverable, a reasonable effort is made to locate the owners. If we are unsuccessful in locating the owner, the name of the owner and the date that the property became “unclaimed” are entered into a database.
