Mutual funds with the highest percent returns are assigned to a quartile of 1, whereas those with the worst returns are assigned a quartile of 4.

Quartile rankings are compiled by sorting the funds by one-year return. Funds in the top 25% are assigned a ranking of 1; the next 25% are assigned a ranking of 2, and so forth.

Note: The ranking of a fund may change for the following reason. When funds with historical performance data are added to the morningstar.ca site, the quartile rankings are recalculated to take into account the performance history of the new funds. The addition of the new funds may change the ranking of funds presently on morningstar.ca.
