Optional services

If you are insured in any optional products or services, you may cancel at any time and HSBC will issue a pro rated refund of the unused portion of any fees or premiums that you have paid (as a credit to your account). To cancel, you may contact Customer Care at the number on the back of your HSBC credit card.

Q - I booked my trip using all or a portion of Aeroplan/Airmiles (or another reward program) am I covered?

A – If greater than 25% of the trip cost was paid for with such points there is no coverage.

 

Q - My travel provider offered to move my trip to a different date or issue a travel/credit voucher instead. I can’t travel on the new date and I don’t want a travel/credit voucher. Will I be covered under my Trip Cancellation Insurance? 

A – No. As per the Canadian Transportation Agency’s Statement on Vouchers, a travel/credit voucher is an appropriate form of reimbursement. Trip Cancellation Insurance will cover any eligible expenses, which aren’t refundable or reimbursable in any manner (for example the non-refundable portion of your hotel booking). Because offering and issuing a travel/credit voucher is a form of reimbursement, you’ll only be covered for eligible expenses not covered by the travel/credit voucher, if you choose to cancel your trip.

 

Q – I had to cancel my trip last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. What benefits am I eligible to claim for?

A - Trip Cancellation will reimburse you for eligible expenses which are not refundable or reimbursable in any manner. If, prior to your scheduled departure you must cancel a Trip due to one of the covered causes for cancellation. Please refer to the Certificate of Insurance or contact the insurer.

Q - I opted to take the Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage coverage at the rental agency, am I covered under the inclusive benefits?

A – In order for the Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage coverage to be active on your covered HSBC credit card you must decline the Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage coverage offered by the rental agency. In some jurisdictions the law requires the rental agencies to include Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage in the price of the vehicle rental. In these jurisdictions, Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage under the Certificate of Insurance will only provide coverage for any deductible that may apply if the rental agency’s deductible waiver was waived. 

 

Q - I am renting a vehicle for 31 consecutive days. Can I bring it back and rent it again for another period of time? 

A - The Certificate of Insurance states that vehicle coverage for the rental period cannot be extended beyond 31 consecutive days by renewing the rental agreement or by taking out a new rental agreement with the same or another rental agency. No coverage is provided for vehicles with rental periods exceeding 31 consecutive days, even for the first 31 days.
