Registration

Before you start

You’ll need the following:

  • Bank Card Number OR Electronic Banking Number
    AND
  • Online Registration Code

These numbers may have been provided to you when you opened your account. An Online Registration Code is valid for 5 days. If you need help, please call us at 1-888-310-4722.

Download the HSBC Canada app

Search for “HSBC Canada" in the App Store or Google Play, then select and download the app.

Register for Digital Banking

We recommend registering for Digital Banking in the app, where you’ll also be able to activate your Digital Security Device and then enable Face / Fingerprint ID.

To register in the app

1.    Launch the HSBC Canada app.

2.    Select ‘Not registered for online banking’.

3.    Read and accept the terms and conditions, and consent to go paperless.

4.    Enter your Bank Card Number or Electronic Banking Number.

5.    Enter the Online Registration Code.

6.    Create a username.

7.    Create an Online Banking password.

8.    Choose a security question and provide an answer.

You’re now registered and can bank in the app and in a browser.  

Don't forget to activate your Digital Security Device right away. Enter your new username and Online Banking password to complete this next step.

 

To register in Online Banking

1.    Go to hsbc.ca/logon

2.    Read and accept the terms and conditions and consent to go paperless.

3.    Enter your Bank Card Number or Electronic Banking Number.

4.    Enter the Online Registration Code we sent you.

5.    Create a username.

6.    Create an Online Banking password.

7.    Choose a security question and provide an answer.

8.    Select a Digital Security Device and take note of the code we provide – you’ll need it to activate your Security Device.

You’re now registered for Online Banking. You can also bank in the app - don’t forget to download the app and activate your Digital Security Device.

Activate a Digital Security Device

  1. Download the HSBC Canada Mobile Banking app from the App Store or Google Play  – if you don’t already have it.
  2. Launch the app.
  3. Log on with your username and Online Banking password.
  4. You may be prompted to activate your device now. If not, select ‘Profile’ (top right) > ‘Security’
  5. Select ‘Activate Digital Security Device’
  6. You’ll now need to receive and enter a couple codes. Follow the instructions in the app.
  7. Create your new Digital Security Device password – this is different from your Online Banking password.

Note: Your Online Banking password is different from your Digital Security Device password.

Your Digital Security Device is now set up. Always log on with your Digital Security Device password, or enable Face / Fingerprint ID  so you can log with your biometric information instead – no need for passwords!

Enhance your security - Enable Face / Fingerprint ID

You can have better security with Face / Touch ID or Fingerprint ID on a supported iOS or Android device. Use your biometric information to log on to the HSBC Canada Mobile Banking app – no passwords needed!

Before enabling biometric ID, you’ll need to download the HSBC Canada app and activate a Digital Security Device.

  1. In your mobile phone settings, make sure you've registered your fingerprint or have Face / Touch ID enabled.
  2. Open the HSBC Canada app, go to the Profile icon (top right) > ‘Security’, and enable Face / Touch ID.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Scan your fingerprint / face for verification.
